artisan brooch-Georgian Coral Cameo Brooch of Mounted Hunter

An exceptionally rare early 19th century English brooch featuring a carved coral of a hunter on horseback, mounted with his kill and a jauntily set pointed hat- I've never seen one quite like it before and simply adore the delicacy of it. A small scale example with the finest quality carving, there is a certain je-ne-sais quoi to the detail and the subject.

The origin myth of coral hints that it was born of the blood of Medusa, when it touched the salty waters of the Adriatic upon her return to the ocean she was born of, after being slain by Perseus.
